Help Julianna Fight Ewing's sarcoma

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Julianna Torres and I have recently been diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma. I am 18 years old and live in Eastern Long Island with my parents and 3 younger siblings. In August of this past year, I started my first semester at the University of Hartford. Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, I wasn't able to finish my senior year in high school as expected- so I was looking forward to being able to be on campus this semester. Within the first couple of days of being on campus, I had started to experience pain within my right leg that worsened over the course of the semester, to the point I had to miss a few in-person classes and at times could not even walk. From an occasional day in pain, it started lasting a couple of days at a time until the pain was more frequent. While still in Connecticut, I had seen an orthopedist and they said that I had iliotibial band syndrome, and I started physical therapy during my long winter break.

When I had gotten home, the pain had become severe, constant, and worsened with movement. It was very soon realized that it wasn't muscular. After this, my doctor believed that this could be due to nerve pain, so I was sent for testing which included MRIs, bloodwork, and X-Rays. During this, it was discovered that I had a huge mass on the femur and that the cancer had created a hole in the bone that is severe to the point that if I fall or twist the wrong way, my leg could break. The oncologist stated that keeping this leg protected could make the difference between keeping my leg and rebuilding it or losing my leg and needing to amputate. Recently, I have seen a pediatric oncologist and a treatment plan has started to be made. We were told treatment will take approximately 7 months and a lot of this time will be spent in the hospital, getting chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, and more chemotherapy. I am expected to lose all my hair, ( it will grow back), have severe nausea, need blood transfusions, platelets, and a very high risk that I will become infertile. All of these side effects are common with chemo and I am ready to deal with them, but being able to have my own children in the future is something I want. Infertility is one issue I wish to tackle before treatment. I can have my eggs removed by a fertility specialist and have them frozen until I wish to use them in many years down the line. This treatment has to start ASAP to be successful, and insurance does not cover it.

My mother is a hospice nurse on Long Island and is the insurance carrier and will have to work and travel along with my father alternating their time between LI and New Jersey where my chemotherapy will take place. The purpose of this GoFundMe is to help pay for the expenses associated with my chemotherapy treatment, as well as my egg collection and freezing procedure. Including any copays, deductibles, and transportation back and forth for treatment. Any support is greatly appreciated, and I am thankful to all who have been praying for me. Thank you so much!
