CSG Spring Gardening Project

This year, Camden School for Girls declared a climate emergency. This means recognising that we are fast approaching dangerous tipping points for our climate, beyond which the climate will be dramatically, dangerously and irreversibly changed. It also means recognising that massive action needs to be undertaken at all levels of society, in order to mitigate this threat. We are committed to taking the necessary steps to become more sustainable, reduce our impact and adapt for more extreme weather conditions. As a school, it is our duty to safeguard the futures of our students, and of all children. If we do not protect our environment, we are failing our students.

 

Our first major action is improving the school's grounds. Our aim is to increase biodiversity, sequester carbon and provide an outdoor learning space, so that our students can learn about and appreciate nature through direct experience. Though this will be an ongoing project, we are first aiming to improve the two areas between the school and the road. This will have the extra benefit of reducing noise and air pollution in the school grounds.

 

Think and Do Camden and Dreams for Trees are assisting us in improving our grounds. They have provided some funding, expertise and resources. However, any additional funding provided will allow us to improve and extend this project, meaning we can buy more trees and cover a larger area.
