"We had just completed the somber task of collecting injured soldiers from a makeshift local shelter, preparing to ferry them to the awaiting hospital. The atmosphere was heavy with the weight of the wounded and the urgency of the moment. As we readied ourselves to depart, the distant hum of another vehicle reached our ears, gradually growing louder and more distinct. Soon, the sound was accompanied by desperate cries that reached us even before the approaching vehicle came into view.
Among the anguished voices, one stood out—Dima, a fellow soldier from our unit. His face contorted in pain, a testament to the brutal toll of the latest mortar attack. It was evident that he required immediate, critical medical attention to have any chance of survival. Swiftly and with practiced efficiency, we carefully transferred Dima into our makeshift "ambulance," fully aware that each passing second was precious. Our mission was twofold: to ensure Dima's survival and to make space for the relentless stream of injured soldiers who awaited our assistance back on the front lines.
Dima's survival brought a glimmer of hope, a testament to human resilience and the unwavering commitment of those who stand united on the front lines. Yet, as we drove towards the hospital, the haunting truth lingered—such victories were not always guaranteed.
This is just one of many stories coming from ground zero. Base UA NGO https://baseua.org/ is on the fore front of helping evacuate children and elderly from the war zone, deliver critical supplies, such as medical aid and food, to the front lines, etc...
I am raising money on their behalf. A friend left her comfortable life in America to volunteer on the ground with Base UA NGO and is running local operations in Western Ukraine.
One of their cars was recently stolen which severs their ability to continue doing this necessary work. The money raised will be put towards purchasing a replacement vehicle to continue this critical and life saving mission.
