Crystal's Lyme Disease Treatments

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

A lot of you know and love my sister Crystal. As you know, Crystal has been on a rollercoaster of a health journey for the last ten years, especially after a devastating head-on collision with a drunk driver. She has had unexplained symptoms including consistent fatigue that makes her bedridden for days, sometimes weeks at a time. She has also experienced excruciating nerve pain for years and has been working with many doctors, including 16 specialists from Stanford. The doctor she has been working with for the last year recently ran her through a series of Lyme disease testing due to her symptoms. The test came back positive for chronic Lyme and other co-infections.

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection usually transmitted by ticks but can also be carried around by feral animals. When caught early, a six week round of antibiotics can usually treat the disease. If caught months or years later, however, it turns into chronic Lyme disease. Treatment is very complicated and usually entails several rounds of antibiotics coupled with treatments focused on boosting the immune system. If she is able to do all the treatments required, her body may heal to a degree and there is a chance that her symptoms will go into remission or at least lessen. There is no cure, but we want to give her the best chance to fight this.

Unfortunately, insurance won’t cover much of what typical Lyme patients need. In total, these treatments can cost on average $12,000 / year out of pocket. This puts people suffering from chronic Lyme disease in a very tough financial position and makes it difficult to pay medical bills. It often leads to medical bankruptcy.

Right now, Crystal’s treatments include a small surgery and a 6 week round of antibiotics to start the long road to remission. Insurance doesn’t cover much of it and just one of her monthly antibiotics costs $1,200. Crystal also needs to purchase an electric wheelchair that is $3,000 which insurance also will not cover.

People have asked her what they can do to help, and she has said that this is what would help her the most. Anything you can donate is much appreciated, and donations can be made anonymously. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page would be an additional huge help.

This fundraiser is to help pay for her medical treatments so she can focus on healing rather than carrying a financial burden this first crucial year. Her doctors want to be aggressive with treatments this year to give her the best chance possible.

Anything helps and we’re all grateful for any support during this time. Thanks for your consideration and help in her journey!
