My name is Crystal Popplewell and I was diagnosed with severe rheumatoid arthritis in every joint when I was 13, over 20 years ago. I’ve recently developed rheumatoid vasculitis in my lower extremities. I required a toe amputation three years ago (which I just now finished paying off) but in April of this year I developed large, open, painful ulcers on my left leg and right ankle. I was hospitalized due to septic infection because of them and, once discharged, I require weekly treatment from my local wound healing center.
Due to my immunocompromised health I was healing slowly until June when I contracted Covid. Because of Covid ALL healing stopped, regressed, and my ulcers became larger. After trying several different treatments with no luck my care team has decided on a treatment called PuraPly which, if my body responds to it, has an 86% chance of working.
The amount of weekly appointments, hospitalization, various treatments, this new and very expensive treatment, plus ongoing care has left me struggling to pay my mounting medical bill. I am disabled and only able to work part time on days I can physically move (still suffering from severe RA). I’m supposed to be off my feet completely during all of this but I don’t qualify for temporary disability, which makes this new health and care struggle a huge and mounting burden.
Any help I would be so lucky to receive I would appreciate greatly. Any and all monies raised will go directly in paying off this bill and remaining weekly care.
Thank You,
Crystal Popplewell
