Crystal can Recover!
This is not only a chance to help but also for you to meet a woman of courage.
Crystal was born and raised in Beaufort, South Carolina, with one older sister, a younger sister and a younger brother. I would describe her as being very strong-spirited and she is a fighter. She is loving and courageous. Crystal has an unwavering faith and is a mighty woman of God who is firm and stands strong in her faith without compromising. She enjoys singing, playing the tambourine, working with the youth ministry and worship ministry at church and serving anytime she has the chance. She loves to inspire, and she loves to implant knowledge into everyone she encounters. She is a member of the Honor Society Gamma Beta Phi, a college graduate, and much more.
Crystal was working a full-time job living with and helping to care for our elderly father, who is 80 years old, and her two children.
Our family has had some rough patches this year, as we have never faced before. In April 2022, we lost our mother (60) and were devastated. She passed without warning, and we couldn't believe it. This was hard for us all, and I can only imagine how hard it was for Crystal and our father to go from seeing her every day to being left with beautiful memories. To cope, she began to see a therapist to help with the trauma. Ironically a part trauma resulted in her having anxiety about going on long car rides. When the accident happened, I can't imagine what she must have felt.
Nearly four months after losing our mother, Crystal left home to get her daughter's paperwork for her sports physical because this was the first year her daughter could play volleyball for her school. Afterward, Crystal headed to get dinner to prepare for the family.
That's when it happened. Witnesses say that as she turned left at the light, her car got T-boned on her passenger side. The vehicle flipped multiple times, landing upside down. We all feared for her well-being when we were informed of the news, and seeing the damages to the car, her being alive is an act of God's love and grace.
My family, especially the siblings, have a bond that will never be broken. I can't fathom the strength she conjured because as she shared her story with us, she described waking up to the sound of the paramedics calling her name. When she woke up, she was scared and in shock, and the only thing that would calm her down was us. She called me, our oldest sister and brother, on an established siblings chat as she hung upside down so that we could pray for her and calm her down while she waited for the jaws of life to arrive and cut open the car to free her. I looked at her as the blood dripped down her face from the open wound, and she looked back in desperation to be freed from the car.
Crystal sustained two broken legs, an injury to her kidney, wrist, ankle, and face, and a gash in her head. We believe God will restore her mind, emotional health, and physical health. Due to the accident, she has undergone four surgeries. Unfortunately, crystal is still hospitalized 40 days and still awaiting acceptance and transfer to rehab or Skilled nursing facility
She cannot work at this time which is a bit difficult. We pray that God will put it on your heart to be a blessing to help make the house handicap accessible, inside and out, help with the monthly household bills for dad and to support her small children. The family has been trying as much as we can, but it isn't easy to cover these expenses. She will need home health care, home aids as well as some way to get to Dr. appointments in the future. Our prayer is that God will put it on your heart to be a blessing to us; we never thought in a million years that this would be us in this position to ask for help; we're usually the ones doing the helping.
I know it has been hard being away from home and her children for over a month, however she has been able to see them occasionally during hospital visits.
She has one daughter (13) who just became a teenager a week ago and a four- year old son who started his 3rd day of pre-k as she was admitted to the hospital. Her two children mean the world to her.
We are doing all we can to help our sister, and we know with your help, Crystal Can Recover!!!
