Help Bring “Crutches” to Life: A Story of Redemption Through Music and Film

Hi, my name is Jeremiah James. I’m a singer-songwriter, storyteller, and independent artist creating a music video called “Crutches”—a deeply human story about addiction, recovery, and rediscovery of self-worth.

At its core, “Crutches” is about transformation. It follows a homeless addict in Los Angeles who experiences a spiritual wake-up call, finds kindness in strangers, and starts the long road to healing. With help from a mysterious man carrying a guitar, a compassionate barber, and a supportive addiction recovery group, he learns to stand again—on his own two feet.

It’s gritty, it’s real, and it’s hopeful.

But here’s the catch: I need your help to bring this vision to life.

Right now, I’m raising funds for a crucial part of production: the physical crutches (yes, literal ones), equipment, props, wardrobe and other essentials needed to make the story as impactful and authentic as possible.

This isn’t just a music video. It’s a collaboration with musicians, filmmakers, stylists, and real people from the recovery community. Everyone involved sees this as bigger than a song—it’s a message to anyone who’s ever felt stuck, broken, or invisible.

This project is a true collaboration of heart and vision. Crutches is being brought to life with the help of Ryan Saywitz, a talented cinematographer currently studying at USC's renowned School of Cinematic Arts. The song was written by me as a reflection on redemption and the quiet strength it takes to change. The powerful storyboard was developed by Seth Reeder, CEO of Collective Visions, whose creative direction has helped shape this narrative into something raw, real and transformative. Together, we're telling a story that's bigger than any one of us, a story that reflects the strength of community and the power of second chances.

Your support helps us cover the cost of:

1) Equipment - Camera Body, Lenses, Stabilization gear, Monitors & Recorders, Lighting Equipment, etc..
2) Production - Wardrobe & props, crew & talent support, makeup & special effects, post production/editing
3) Miscellaneous - the shoot will take place in several different locations over the course of 3 days. Any extra funds will be applied to:

  • Feed and care for our volunteer cast and crew during production.

  • Finish editing and promote the final piece so it reaches people who need this story the most.

If you’ve ever been moved by a second chance—or given one—this project is for you.

No amount is too small. If you can’t give, please consider sharing. This project is being made by artists with heart, community in mind, and an unshakable belief in the power of storytelling to heal.

Thank you for being a part of it.

With love and respect,

Jeremiah James
