This is Chris. Otherwise known as C-Rob, My Man, Uncle Chris or Doodlebug. Depending on who you ask. He may secretly be called Batman. You'll never know. Chris is an amazing person that I am proud to call my brother. In 2009, he had a mole removed from his ear that turned out to be Melanoma. The oncologist that he met with at the time told him it was all removed and no further follow-up was needed. All was great!
In 2013, I was diagnosed with stage 2 Breast Cancer. I beat that and Cory and I asked Chris to get a check-up. Fast Forward to March of 2015, Chris had a persistent dry cough for a couple months. He went to the walk-in clinic and was given antibiotics. No x-ray was given. In April, the cough was still annoying him so he went back in and asked for an x-ray. A huge mass was discovered in his left lung.
Many tests and Dr.'s appointments later, it has been discovered that he has Metatastic Melanoma Stage IV.
There is a spot in the middle of his brain, the back of his shoulder, on top of his shoulder, in his left lung, and on the back of his left leg by his knee. Upon further investigation, we have come to realize that a chest x-ray should be given to everyone who has tested positive for Melanoma every 6 months. The lungs are the first place it spreads. We feel betrayed and hopeful that treatments will work.
He has had 6 treatments so far. He is having a repeat scan done on July 20 to see if it has worked. The bills are coming in at full force. Help us help him! Also, help us raise awareness for the importance of chest x-rays for people who have had Melanoma. How many lives can we save?!
