Meet Crush - Our Big Hearted Bulldog Who Needs Urgent Help
If you’ve made it this far, it’s probably because you were drawn in by the face of an extremely handsome British Bulldog. Meet Crush.
Crushy is nearly 3 years old and a true bundle of joy. He’s at his happiest splashing at the beach with his brother Clifford and giving cuddles to everyone he meets, human or animal. He’s gentle, affectionate, and full of personality. An absolute tank with a heart of gold.
As owners, we’ve done everything we can to give him the life he deserves. We’ve gotten him BOAS surgery to help him breathe easier, had his cherry eye corrected, and kept up with regular vet visits. He’s been insured since day one and until now, we’ve never had a problem.
But everything recently changed.
What Happened to Crush
About six weeks ago, Crush started limping on his back leg. We took him to the vet immediately. After initial treatment with pain relief and rest, things looked promising, but then it got worse. Much worse.
Crush began dragging his leg, unable to bear any weight. He was falling when trying to toilet, couldn’t get comfy to sleep, and most heartbreakingly, he no longer wanted to get up and play with Clifford.
Our vet recommended sedation and x-rays which, as any flat faced dog owner knows, is a terrifying risk. But it was necessary. And that’s when we got the devastating news:
Crush has torn ligaments in both back legs and needs urgent surgery.
We were shocked, but still hopeful. After all, we’ve always had insurance.
Insurance Said No. Now We’re On Our Own
We submitted a preapproval, confident it would be covered. But then the worst part: Insurance denied the claim, citing fine print technicalities.
Now we are left staring down the barrel of a huge vet bill, with no help from the insurer we trusted. We have always managed to cover Crush and Clifford’s needs, but this is more than we can take on alone. On top of the surgery itself, Crush will need ongoing hydrotherapy and a lengthy recovery, which adds even more pressure. It is absolutely heart-breaking.
This Is Our Last Resort - We’re Asking for Your Help
Crush deserves to be back in the garden wrestling with Clifford. He deserves to run free at the beach, rolling in the sand and swimming like he used to.
He deserves to live without pain.
If you’re able to give anything, big or small, we’d be forever grateful. Your support means the world, not just to us, but to the wrinkly little soul who’s brought so much joy to everyone he's met.
Thank you so much for reading, and for being the kind of person who stops to help a dog like Crush.
With love,
Crush, Clifford, and the humans who adore them
