Hello,
My name is Melissa and I am fundraising for a young Campbell River BC boy who is fighting for his life in BC children’s hospital.
Casey Bereskin is a 6 year old boy who lives in Campbell River with his parents Mike and Megan and his older sister Savanna (8).
Like so many families, the Bereskin family is a hard working typical young family. This family has already had their share of ups and downs over the last few years with various medical challenges for both of their young children.
Last week on May 14th Casey was airlifted to BC Children’s Hospital with what was initially believed to be a virus that was damaging his liver. Since arrival Casey has been in a medically induced coma. It has now been learned that Casey is battling a rare condition called ANEC.
ANEC is an autoimmune condition that attacks the organs and brain. Casey has been battling liver dysfunction and his central brain stem is now infected. He is still in an induced sedated coma as he undergoes plasma exchanges to his brain stem. Soon he will have IVIG therapy.
This is Casey’s 3rd time hospitalized in 5 years and his sister is at high risk for the same, having been hospitalized in 2022.
We don’t know what prognosis/ recovery looks like and at this time it is unclear of the amount of time the family will continue to be separated.
Mike and Megan will be switching off and travelling between home and BCCH. At least one or both of them will be taking time from their respective workplaces to navigate this extremely stressful nightmare.
Funds raised will go towards flights, ferries, accommodations, meals, lost wages and any related unforeseen expenses such as childcare/respite.
Please donate what you can for this amazing and strong little man and let’s rally around his family during this difficult time.
Thank you for your consideration.
