Hi my name is Samantha, I am Ethan’s Nan and I would like to raise money to take him on a cruise and raise some money for the two main hospitals that have helped my grandson through his cancer journey. Birmingham children’s hospital and Manchester Proton beam Therapy.
Back in July 2025 Ethan was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma (an aggressive brain tumour) he was getting terrible migraines and his balance was off. His mum took him to his gp and they told her to take him straight to a&e where they was told they do not do scans on children and to do a food diary. Ethans migraines became worse he would be screaming and been sick so his mum and dad took him to Birmingham children’s and that is where they done a MRI and found the tumour which was the size of an orange. Ethan underwent over 6 hours of surgery they managed to get majority of it out but was some still there they couldn’t safely remove without causing life long damage. He was told he would be in hospital for at least two weeks. But less than 24 hours after serious brain surgery Ethan was walking around, and after five days in hospital he was discharged home. The drs was amazed with how well he was doing, he was determined to get home to his dogs, smudge and fudge.
Two days after he went home his consultant asked his mum and dad to come in and that is when they was told the devastating news that our little happy chappy Ethan had got an aggressive brain tumour and he would need chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Ethan’s response to his mum and dad telling him he had cancer is one we will never forget “don’t worry I’m not scared I’m going to kick cancers butt”
so in August Ethan had to have a weeks stay in the hospital while he received chemotherapy, he then had another round in September. Then in October he had to go to Manchester to receive his radiotherapy. While they was in Manchester Ethan’s mum had a baby, And Ethan loved becoming a big brother, Maximus helped Ethan through his remaining weeks of radiotherapy. Ethan got through the radiotherapy no problems he had to have radio 2 times a day which was extremely tiring for him. But he never stopped smiling. Making others along the way smile and giggle. He finally rang the bell for end of treatment in Manchester and it was so beautiful but also emotional. When he returned home he was told he had to have 36 weeks of chemotherapy which he started in December. It has been a tough long journey and along the way he’s had to have platelet transfusions blood transfusions, hospital stays for long periods of time. He has had Neutropenia He has had to use a wheelchair because he gets so tired. He’s had to have NG feeding tubes 6 in one week which has traumatised him he’s lost so much weight but is so frightened to have another NG tube. Ethan has missed out on so much over the past few months he was so poorly over Christmas and spent it all in hospital, I feel he deserves the world and more. He never stops smiling even on his bad days. Ethan has always wanted to go on a cruise, when he was five he became fascinated by the titanic he loved to watch the film and learn everything he could about the titanic. Once his treatment is finished and his central line is removed we would love to be able to make his dream come true of been able to go on a cruise.
So I am doing a walk from Birmingham children’s hospital to The Christie proton beam in Manchester, I will be doing this in August 2026. Starting from Sunday 9th August.
So any donations how ever big or small will be greatly appreciated
