Help Pam & Brian Beat Breast Cancer during COVID
Compassionate, kindhearted Pamela St. Jean has breast cancer.
Brian Monahan, her devoted spouse, lost his job due to COVID-19.
They need our help.
If we are unable to meet our goal, Pam and Brian could lose their shelter, not have reliable transportation or food to eat.
The global pandemic has brought uncertain times for many of us. We’re not hugging, we’re lonely, our travel plans have been cancelled, our savings have been depleted, and we are having more fears and anxieties. COVID-19 has left Pam (an incredible healer and neuromuscular therapist of twenty-three years) without work and Brian (an actor who works in the restaurant industry) jobless. Being both unemployed since March has eaten up their modest savings and made paying rent a struggle. As misfortune would have it - soon after the Los Angeles coronavirus lock-down left them unemployed - Pam and Brian’s shared vehicle died. Not having a car during lockdown was an inconvenience but workable. However, a few, short months later Pam had a mass in her breast biopsied and was told she had aggressive breast cancer. I cannot imagine the stress of receiving a cancer diagnosis and being ill while jobless and car-less during the pandemic. Pam will undergo chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation treatments for the next 8 months before she starts her long recovery. While her prognosis is positive - this made it clear they needed to reach out for help.
All donations will go directly to the crucial support Pam and Brian need while navigating Pam’s breast cancer treatment during the Covid pandemic - car/transportation expenses (her cancer hospital is a 45 minute drive each way), food, rent, utilities, and any out of pocket medical costs. These funds will make all the difference in Pam and Brian being able to focus on Pam getting healthy and being cared for instead of worrying about basic physiological and safety needs. Pam starts treatment in the coming week - so we are asking for your help TODAY.
If you know Pam, then you know she is a natural care-giver. She is a great listener and her first instinct is always “how can I help?”. I first met Pam in 2004 on Craigslist (Yes, I said Craigslist!) when I was looking for a roommate in NYC. We immediately connected and I moved in with her and her partner Brian. I’ll always remember how she winced in pain when I moved into our apartment with my old, deflated, air mattress and pleaded to take me to a local mattress store so I “wouldn't hurt my back”. Sixteen years later we are still close friends. Whether she’s caring for my cats while I’m out of town, offering a ride to the airport, or giving me the best massage of my life - she’s always been a loving and supportive friend. I hope to return her kindness with some resources during this difficult time.
Pam has made it her life’s mission to take care of others. Let’s take care of her now.
Thank you in advance for your generous gifts! Please help continue to spread this campaign via email, social media, & text. #pamdemic2020
