My sister Stacy and her husband Josh have 4 children. In June of 2017, they noticed that their youngest, Josiah, was not responding to visual stimulation. After 2 months of waiting, they had their first doctors appointment with opthalmology in Grand Rapids, MI, which confirmed that Josiah was blind. To determine the cause of his blindness, he underwent a number of tests including MRI's, CT scans, and ECG's, among others.

After the testing was inconclusive, Stacy and Josh were referred to the University of Michigan for further diagnostic testing. The referral process took about 4 months. At the end of January, 2018, Josiah was finally seen by University of Michigan medical staff and underwent another ECG. However, during the ECG, doctors noticed that Josiah was having nearly continuous seizures, so the procedure was terminated. Josiah was then admitted and so far, has spent 5 days in the hospital. Since being in the hospital, Josiah has been placed on injections twice each day for his seizures, which greatly reduces the effectiveness of his immune system. Stacy has stayed with him, while Josh returned to West Michigan to work and take care of the other 3 young children. So far, the cause of Josiah's blindness and seizures is unknown, and doctors have recommended full-panel genetic testing, which can be very costly and is somewhat of a last resort for long-term answers.

While Josiah turns 1 in about a month, he is cognitivally and developmentally behaving like a 3 or 4 month old. Doctors are unsure if he will ever be able to walk, talk, or function independently. In short, the Cruce family has a long and challenging road ahead.

Stacy and Josh are a single income family with her cutting hair in her salon in the basement for supplemental income to cover everyday bills. In addition, Josh has burned through his vacation days in order to be with Stacy at Josiah’s appointments. They currently only have one reliable vehicle that only seats 5 people. They are not only in dire need of a new vehicle to fit the whole family, they also face financial crisis with future medical bills and various therapies.

Stacy and Josh stand firm in the promises of our Lord and Savior. They know the Lord is good and faithful and will bring them through this storm and season. Your contribution would help bless their family and assist with the financial burden they have to bare.

Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated. We will update everyone as much as possible as they continue to get answers.
