CRPS Strong

As you may already know, in December of 2020 I pulled my right hamstring during a regular soccer practice. Things didn’t progress as they should’ve, and 60 days later I found myself experiencing uncontrollable spasms in that same leg. I spent the following week at Sunrise Hospital, but was left without a diagnosis or lead. I was sent on a mission for the next 9 months in search of a diagnosis. I saw over 27 different doctors and specialists, including ones from UCLA, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Stanford, and Mayo Clinic, none of whom were able to help me. To say the least, it was a rollercoaster ride of emotions and unanswered prayers. I never gave up hope though, and continued to fight despite all of the dead ends.

Nine months into my journey, my mom found a sports neurologist out of Utah that worked with athletes from the NFL and Olympics. We flew up to Salt Lake City and within one day, I was properly diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) and began treatment that same evening. I was able to return home walking without crutches for the first time since February. I was beyond excited to have gotten a diagnosis, but I knew I still had a long road ahead of me. Since then, I have had a few speed bumps but I’m now rehabbing and I am planning on getting back on the field in the next few months.

I started my non-profit CRPS Strong to help spread awareness, as CRPS is often misdiagnosed and or completely missed as a whole. I’m working to raise money in order to donate to research and clinical trials for my disorder. Most importantly, I want those that hear my story to know how important it is to have hope and to never give up no matter how big the obstacles are.
