On October 14th, 2021, Carly woke up feeling sick and got more and more sick throughout the day. By that night, her brother in-law came and picked her up and brought her to the ER. Since then, she has been to the ER 4 times (2 times by ambulance) and was finally admitted to the hospital during the 4th visit. During the 3rd visit, they found that Carly has a particularly bad cause of Colitis (a disease characterized by inflammation of the lining of the colon). During her 4th visit, they found that her white blood cell count was low she was transferred to the oncology wing at one of the bigger Pittsburgh hospitals on October 19th, 2021. At this point, they are optimistic that she does not have cancer, but are continuing to run more tests to completely rule this out. They are also working to treat her Colitis and are still trying to figure out what else may be going on. She currently still at this hospital today (October 20, 2021) and will be there for at least a few more days, depending on what they find.
Between all these visits, she has had her blood drawn more times than she can count, has had 4 MRI’s, 3 CAT scans, and multiple X-rays. Because they are still unsure of a diagnosis aside from the Colitis, she will be continuing to have more tests and treatments, including a colonoscopy.
In March of 2021, Carly had an unrelated accident and suffered from a concussion. Because Carly had been diagnosed with Post-Concussion Syndrome before this event, her subsequent concussion was very traumatic on her body, causing her to go to the ER multiple times and ending up on part-time disability at work (which she is still on right now). She has been working hard to overcome this incident by seeing multiple specialists and being in multiple therapists, usually having at least 2 appointments per week.
As you can imagine, the cost of all these appointments, ER visits and tests has been and will continue to be extremely expensive. If you know Carly, you know that she has a heart of gold and is one of the most generous people that we know. She is a loyal daughter, sister, aunt, friend and social worker and we (her family) would be so grateful for any financial help that you could give to her. Of course, Carly is so appreciative of prayers as well and is so thankful for all of you who are here reading this.
We will keep this page updated as we know more, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
