Our family is grieving the unexpected and tragic loss of our beloved cousin. At just 17 years old, he was incarcerated for a first-time offense and sentenced to 10 years flat. This was a pivotal moment in his life, as he was already struggling with mental health issues. In fact, he was scheduled to be admitted to a mental health facility the very next day—an opportunity that was taken away when he was arrested.
Over the past year, our family worked tirelessly with the social worker at the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in Baton Rouge to try and get him released into proper mental health care. Despite our efforts and advocacy, the social worker denied every attempt.
Then, without warning or notification, he was released—alone and unsupported. Tragically, not long after his release, we received the devastating news that he was found dead.
We are asking for your help to give him the burial he deserves. Our goal is to raise enough to cover funeral and memorial costs. Any amount, no matter how small, would mean the world to our family during this incredibly difficult time.
Please keep us in your prayers, and thank you for your support.
