Crowther Photo Archive Project

Entrusted with most of the historic Crowther family photos and I’ve been working on creating an archive. My mother, Mabel Rose (Crowther) Watts inherited photos from her relatives and they were passed on to me as I am a lifelong photographer. The great news is that Grandpa Crowther was a prolific photographer and caretaker of the images which now creates an enormous and detailed project.

I’m requesting donations from the families for this project to help cover the costs of materials, cloud hosting, backup storage, sustained proper storage of originals, outsourcing some of the digital processes, as well as other equipment and supplies needed to complete this project, including hiring an assistant to help with organizing, scanning, processing and cataloging files. I’m volunteering my time. 

Project overview

10 to 20+ boxes of individual images from 1870-1950's, there are hundreds of images which require organizing, selecting sufficient images, scanning, importing and cataloging.

Approximately 50 framed or large images that are too large for the scanner and will need to be removed from frames and photographed.

50 to 80+/- images of Irish relatives 1800's (?)

Grandpa Crowther Woolworths history includes executive dinner photos, store photos and his history with Woolworths.

Plenty of other photos, slides, super 8mm movies, too many to list. Outsource services for these items to be converted to digital.

Creating a spreadsheet of dates and people in the photos. Interactive so others can add names and notes.

Determine where the original images live after the digital archiving is done. Shipping fees need to be assessed once finished.

Images are stored in a climate-controlled area so they will be preserved and shared with the families. 

I will provide full access to the images so you will be free to view, download and access as you wish. I understand the offerings may vary as to what people are able to contribute. Access will not be denied to any family member that is unable to contribute. The hope is that those that can will help offset the costs of those that cannot. Everyone will have access regardless of their contribution.
