In October of 2019, Alice found her life turned upside down. While studying at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Groningen, Alice was approached by a visiting scholar at the Faculty of Law. He invited Alice to come over to the international student flat where he was staying and raped her. Alice reported the incident to the police in Groningen, but on April 26, 2021 the case was dismissed due to insufficient evidence. Hearing this, Alice did not give up for the justice. She could not just let it go, and it is necessary to know how the present law protects the women. Women should be supported by the law in the same way as men, which is a non-controversial issue. Then she struggled to appeal at the higher court in Leeuwarden, but it was rejected. She also went to China where after two months of calling, pushing, and emailing she was able to file a report, but did not receive any verdict.

After being raped, Alice received psychological treatment for 2 years, and was even hospitalized for 10 months. All this time and till this date, she is constantly getting threats and intimidations from the perpetrator, anonymous numbers, and weibo (Chinese social media app). An unknown person impersonated her to a journalist and threatened them. She received the call from the police in The Hague, asking her about a bomb threat. Her attacker somehow got a hold of her personal police file.

The perpetrator is an official of the Department of Justice of Jiangsu Province and the Xuzhou Municipal Bureau of Justice, who was a visiting scholar in the Faculty of Law of University of Groningen. During the period where Alice was recovering, the perpetrator reported a few fake cases in the Netherlands. At the same time, the police department in Xuzhou, China, also contacted the Groningen police through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, trying to portray Alice as a troublemaker, then to deport her to China. A task force has been set up in Xuzhou, China. There, Alice is accused of attacking the Xuzhou political and legal institution. Besides this, the perpetrator somehow got a hold of her Dutch police full report, knows her BSN number, phone number, address, and date of birth, etc.

In this, there are multiple charges and fake cases against Alice, such as the ones interfered with by Xuzhou police and the accusations that took place in the Netherlands. These kinds of criminal charges will be recorded and cause great harm to her reputation in the police system, increasing the potential risk of being criminally filed! Therefore, Alice needs legal support from lawyers who can clarify/rectify her profile in the police system. Having been undergoing psychological treatment for the trauma, Alice is unable to afford the legal fees for the lawyers that she needs. Hence, we are setting up a crowdfunding for the legal fees.
