Help Us Create a Healing Garden for Carers in Oldbury

At Crossroads Caring for Carers, Oldbury, we’re committed to supporting family carers and those they care for. We believe that everyone deserves a space for peace, reflection, and social connection. That’s why we’re launching a project to revamp our garden to turn it into an accessible, tranquil, outdoor haven that everyone can enjoy.

Why this matters

Caring can be exhausting - emotionally, mentally, and physically. Many people who care for a family member or friend rarely find time for their own health and wellbeing. We hope that a beautiful garden space will offer a therapeutic refuge for both carers and those with care needs.

Gardening is a hobby that many carers have little time for due to the demands of their caring role. Carers can enjoy the garden when attending one of Crossroads’ regular carer support groups. Here they can reconnect with nature, ease stress, and feel supported by others on the same journey.

Those with care needs will benefit when attending Crossroads’ new Day Club. The garden renovation will create a safe outdoor space where they can gather for activities and gentle exercise, promoting independence and benefitting both physical and mental health. Family carers can relax and take some much-needed respite, knowing their loved one is in the safe hands of Crossroads Care Support Workers.

What we’ll do with your help
Tree / foliage trimming & removal: Some of the surrounding trees and overgrowth currently cast deep shade across the area. We aim to raise £2,000 to bring in professional arborists to cut back and shape the trees, opening up light and air to the garden.
Soft landscaping & planting: Once the trees are managed, we’ll plant shrubs, flowers, and sensory herb beds — something for all seasons and all senses.
Garden furniture & features: Seating, paths, planters, raised beds, and shelter areas (e.g. pergolas or shade sails) to make the space comfortable and accessible.
Tools, PPE & supplies: We’ll need spades, rakes, gloves, safety gear, compost, soil, fertilizer, and more to maintain the garden.
Group-use design & accessibility: Our goal is to ensure the garden works for small groups (day sessions, horticultural therapy, craft in the open air) and is safe and easy to navigate for people with mobility issues.

How your donation will help & what you’ll be supporting
- A £20 donation could buy a row of plants, or a packet of perennial wildflower seed.
- £50–£100 could contribute toward shrubs, compost, or a garden seat.
- Larger gifts will go toward tree works or building raised beds.
- All donors will be recognised (unless anonymous) on a “Friends of the Healing Garden” board in the garden.

Why help us
The garden will serve family carers, their loved ones with care needs, and the wider community. It’ll be a space for gentle gardening (few demands), creative workshops, quiet reflection, social connection, and relief from stress.

It will help foster wellbeing and hope in people whose focus is usually on others.

Join us on this journey

We can’t do this alone. Whether you donate, share our campaign, or lend your time, every little bit brings us closer. Together, we’ll cultivate not just plants — but peace, resilience, and joy for carers in Oldbury and beyond. Thank you for caring with us.
