Hello friends and community members,
I wanted to ask you all for some help with something important to me and the community I/we live in. I know many of us are struggling right now, as a result of The Covid-19 Virus, and so many jobs being lost. We all have friends, families and businesses we want to support, so please only help if you can! Crossroads Food Shop is a breakfast/lunch place in our community. Located in Hillsdale, New York in Columbia County. My husband, Peter, was a baker there for a year. In that year, he formed an amazing bond with his incredible boss, David. David is more than a boss, more than an outstanding chef, more than a friendly face behind a counter. He is a pillar of our community. He provides a home away from home by running Crossroads. He provides true comfort food, and an atmosphere that is crucial to our area. Last year, David gave my husband Peter paid paternity leave, allowing him to safely stay home with me in those early weeks, while also being able to provide for our new family. David allowed me come into work with Peter and sleep on his banquette the week my Mom died and I was terrified to be home alone. He feeds our community, learns everyone’s name, and always has a genuine smile on his face. Before Peter worked at Crossroads, we were regular customers there. Although it was sometimes a stretch for our small budget, it was always worth it. David has always provided affordable food, of the highest quality, much of which is sourced right here in The Hudson Valley. Crossroads makes a true effort to buy from, and support many of the local farms and small food businesses in our community, and now it is our turn to support them!
Like many of us, the hardworking staff of Crossroads Food Shop have now been out of work for weeks, with no real end in sight. I know that it cannot be easy for David to imagine his employees going without the stability of a paycheck during this time. Such a gentle, kind soul does not deserve to take on all of this stress alone. The employees of Crossroads, who show up every day and serve us our meals, learn our names and our orders...they do not deserve the stress of not knowing when they will be able to return to work and a stable income. I am asking you to please consider contributing to this fund, all of which will go directly to David to disperse among his employees.
Everyone who donates will also be entered into a raffle for a beautiful antique kilim rug, and $250 towards my vintage online shop, @cassandradawnvintage on Instagram & Etsy!
Thank you for your time, and your incredible generosity.
Love,
Cassie & Peter
