Cross Keys Washington DC Trip
Donation protected
Hi Everyone!
My name is Rebecca Carter and I am the AP U.S. History teacher at Cross Keys High School in Atlanta, GA. This year is the first year in many that Cross Keys has been able to offer an AP U.S. history class. The juniors and seniors in this class have worked extremely hard throughout high school and have fought against the odds to stay in school and excel. I would love to reward these phenomenal students with a trip to Washington DC for spring break this year, but I need your help.
A little about Cross Keys
Cross Keys High is a public school in Dekalb County, GA. The vast majority of our students come from immigrant families and 97% speak a language other than English at home. We are also a Title I school which means that high numbers of our students and their families live in poverty. This data is determined by the number of students whose parents’ income qualify them for free or reduced price lunch. At Cross Keys approximately 90% of students come from families living at or below the poverty line. Many of our students, including those in my AP class, work part time jobs after school and on the weekends and care for younger siblings while their parents work.
What all of this means is that my students families can’t afford to send them on this trip. Without fundraising and donations this trip is just not possible. This is where you come in! The cost of the trip per student is $669, which covers everything they need while away from home and there are 30 students in the class. 30 students x $669 brings the grand total to $20,070. The students are busy fundraising, but it’s a lot of money. This is a wonderful opportunity for these students who very rarely get the chance to travel and any donation towards our goal would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
