Crossing Bridges is a non-profit therapeutic riding center located in Grants Pass, OR. We offer private lessons, group lessons, and YMCA horse camps. Crossing Bridges provides lessons for special needs individauls as well as typically developing students. We offer a fun environment where students feel safe and gain confidence in themselves.
We were able to offer horse rides to 50+ foster kids at Royal Family Kids Camp in July 2014 and we provided horse themed birthday parties throughout the year. We have done a Field Trip for 20+ special needs students from Madrona Elementary Life Skills program the past 3 years with a field trip planned for Merlin Head Start in 2015 also. During the Summer of 2014 Crossing Bridges worked with over 75 different students and throughout 2014 approx. 750 hours of riding lessons were given at Crossing Bridges.
Our biggest struggle with starting a therapy program has been trying to schedule and coordinate students, volunteers, and instructors around the weather. Our next step is building an enclosed riding arena which will provide endless opportunities for our students. We would like to build a fabric arena designed through Clear Span; this is a movable structure so it can be owned by our non-profit. This fabric arena has a sound-absorbing material and allows students to focus on their horses and the instructor. It allows natural light to shine through and there are no shadows to spook horses. The biggest advantage of these types of arena's are that they are climate responsive; they stay 15-20 degrees cooler in the summer and 15-20 degrees warmer in the winter.
This arena would allow Crossing Bridges to provide therapy year-round without any complications. It would give our students a much more comfortable and safer learning environment. Thank you for your time and we hope you will consider helping us make this new endeavor possible and allow Crossing Bridges to open it's doors to more students and continue to grow and provide therapy.
