Running the NYC Marathon has been a dream of mine for a long time, and this November I have the chance to make it a reality and run on The Peregrine Fund team. Conservation is core to who I am—shaped by my San Diegan upbringing and early lessons from droughts and wildfires that taught me our resources are finite and worth protecting. The oceans are my happy place and growing up with the beach as my backyard instilled a deep-seated appreciation for the beauty of the natural world that will last my lifetime. As a result, I try to live those values daily through small, intentional choices and local cleanup efforts. Supporting a conservation-focused organization through this marathon feels especially purposeful. More at @theperegrinefund.com
The race itself holds a special personal meaning too. A lifelong goal of mine has been to run a marathon in every city I’ve lived and NYC holds the key. More so, since anything worth doing is never easy, I’ve already started the journey by climbing hurdles. After a slip-on black ice this winter and a knee injury that is slow to recover, I may have to come to terms with the possibility that my running days may be numbered; making my acceptance well-timed. With that said, I refuse to let this stop me from accomplishing this bucket-list goal and crossing it off. If anything, I’m more determined to show up and finish strong.
As I proceed down this road, I’m asking for your support. Donations on GoFundMe will help offset the costs of getting to the starting line, including training, travel, and race-related expenses. Excess funds will then be made to continue supporting The Peregrine Fund and their invaluable work protecting ecosystems. Your support means more than just helping me reach the finish line, it’s a way to contribute to a cause I care deeply about and to be part of something personal and intentional. Thank you so much for embarking on this journey with me. I am humbled by your love and support, and inspired by your belief in me.
