On 04/05/2023, Larinda Holten went to the doctors because she had gotten a sore throat the day prior. The doctors thought it was strep throat, but she tested negative and was sent home. On 04/07/2023, nothing had cleared up so the doctors tested her for Mononucleosis. The very next day Larinda was developing sores not only in her throat, but throughout her entire body so she went to the hospital where they presumed she had Behçet’s disease (a rare autoimmune disease), but were unsure and still sent her home. Larinda then tried to make an appointment with her rheumatologist in Denver, but with no luck went to the emergency room in Colorado where they said they couldn’t do anything for her either. Larinda came home and tried to take care of herself at home, but after being sick and dehydrated for over a week, she had no other choice but to go back to the hospital as she had lost over 15 lbs since the beginning of April. On 04/12/2023, Larinda went back to the hospital where the medicine doctor came in and said she had all the signs and symptoms of Behcet’s and admitted her for pain management and fluid administration through an IV since she cannot swallow. She is currently still in the hospital and is doing better through pain management and IV fluids. Unfortunately this has brought financial burden to Larinda and her family. Her husband, Bryan Holten, is disabled and works as much as he can as he is wheelchair bound. But with Larinda needing to work and unable to and on top of that with having to go to the hospital as much as she has in order to get treated appropriately it would put anyone a step back. Anything helps this family as they have ALWAYS been so giving to everyone and supportive of this community.
