My name is Darragh, and my son Riley is autistic. Like many children with additional needs, he faces significant challenges when it comes to learning. Unfortunately, the services available for kids like Riley are few and far between, and even the most basic support that many parents take for granted can be difficult to access.
That’s why my wife, Sara, and I were beyond grateful when Riley was offered a place at St Mary’s School in Rochestown. It’s a wonderful learning environment—one that we truly believe will help him grow, develop, and thrive.
I’m doing this 125-kilometre fundraiser walk from Crosshaven to Crookhaven because, like all schools supporting children with additional needs, St Mary’s relies on extra funding to provide the best possible resources. Every euro we raise will go towards a much-needed sensory unit. Sensory rooms provide a crucial space for children to take a break, self-regulate, and regain focus. For autistic children, everyday experiences that others take in their stride can be overwhelming—sensory rooms are an essential tool that helps them manage, cope, and continue to thrive.
Beyond fundraising, this walk is also about raising awareness. Our society still has a long way to go in ensuring children like Riley get the support they need to reach their full potential. Every step of this journey is a step toward a brighter, more inclusive future for all children who are trying their hardest to make things work.
Thank you for your support—it truly makes a difference
