Cross- Pirie House Fire Fund
Donation protected
The home of Darrin Cross, Melissa Pirie Cross and their son Levi went up in flames yesterday. Darrin was home, acted swiftly, was fortunately not hurt and he saved the animals (except the poor fish). It started in the chimney due to '80's construction and moved through the entire attic destroying the house through either flames or smoke damage. The ceiling fell on all possessions spreading asbestos, water and all kinds of smoke damage everywhere. They are not allowed to touch or take items that remain. The house is now open to the elements. It is shocking, jarring and super stressful.
This family is one of the most amazing, most compassionate families I have ever known. They are now facing months of living away from their home, in a ton of uncertainty and will be preoccupied with all work related to rebuilding their lives.
Just this holiday I heard a speech from a family who had a similar experience. Their house burned down a year ago and the main point of their talk was that they could never have gotten through the horrible, life-changing experience without the generous support of friends. Even though Darrin and Melissa have home insurance, there are many incidental costs that are not covered.
Our goal with this site is to provide them with a buffer of financial support to relieve the intense pressures of this difficult time. We would like to give them these funds within one week (by January 10th) so please act generously and quickly if you can. While they have given permission for this initiative, of course they did not request it. I just know both Melissa and Darrin have given so much to so many of us and many people would love to help.
