A message from Kristin and Corbin:
Hi friends,
I’m sure it isn’t a surprise to anyone that Corbin and I have always been so excited to be parents. In January 2021, we unofficially started trying for a baby and went into it with the mindset of “whatever happens, happens.” After a couple of months, in October 2021, we started tracking cycles and intentionally trying for a baby. With nearly a year of negative pregnancy tests, in December of 2021, I went to a doctor to seek some help and was diagnosed with various hormonal issues. I spent 8 months working on healing those issues naturally and praying that in doing so, it would help us get pregnant.
Officially in September 2022, my doctor let me know that all of my hormone levels were looking healthy and recommended we get Corbin tested before moving forward with any treatment options, as we still were not getting pregnant. Two weeks later, we got a call that we weren’t ever expecting and found out Corbin’s sample came back with a count of 0 sperm. Since then, through genetic testing, he has been diagnosed with Azoospermia Factor C (AZFc). AZFc is a microdeletion of his Y chromosome and turns out he has had this since birth. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can reverse this diagnosis. In January, Corbin had a procedure to determine if he had any sperm at all and we were elated when results came back saying that he indeed had sperm! We could have the babies that we had always hoped, dreamed, and prayed for. The only way of accessing this sperm is through a surgical procedure called a microTESE.
The next step for us is doing IVF via microTESE. This means that I will move forward with a traditional IVF cycle and egg retrieval and Corbin will receive surgery to extract sperm and create embryos. Because of Corbin’s diagnosis we were given a tighter timeline than we would have expected, they recommend we complete the microTESE and egg fertilization before the end of this year. We weren’t financially planning for IVF, let alone an infertility diagnosis, and unfortunately, this must be done completely out of pocket, as insurance does not cover any of the costs or medications.
After prayer and counsel from close ones, we’ve chosen to reach out to our community and ask for help in growing our family! This has been a fairly private process for the two of us as we’ve navigated this journey together. We are wanting to keep this private among our close friends and family and don’t plan on sharing the details publicly or on social media. However, we love you and wanted to invite you on this journey with us. Our treatments will cost roughly $35,000. We don’t by any means expect this all to be fundraised, but we know that every dollar helps us reach our goal as we also apply for financing options and public grants to help us pull this off.
Here is a breakdown of our costs:
- MicroTESE - $6,185
- IVF Freeze All - $14,565
- Frozen Embryo Transfer - $4500 per round
- ICSI - $1,250
- IVF Medications - $5500
- FET Medications - $1800
- Egg/Embryo Storage - $70/month
We love you and thank you so much for your prayers and support as we walk through this! We are so excited for all the Crosby babies that we’ll get the privilege to raise.
