Watch my video about my trip!
Hello! My name is Croix. I am 27, live in Portland, and nearing the completion of my Associates Degree.
This summer I have an incredible opportunity to attend an Education Abroad course in Barcelona, Spain. It will be a month long from late June to late July. The class I will be taking is Statistics 1, which fulfills a Mathematics credit and will be my final class before graduating from PCC. I was so excited when I discovered this opportunity because I had already planned on taking Statistics since it is an incredibly useful tool in many fields and in our general lives these days. It will help me understand how to collect data, analyze it, and utilize those insights for a better future.
Another reason I am super excited for this class is because it is framed around a cause that is very important to me: affordable housing. We will get on-the-ground experience of collecting data about housing in Barcelona, compare that data to housing in Portland, and develop insight on the two cities and their housing situations.
On top of it all, I have been taking Spanish classes for the last 2 years, and this trip would provide an excellent way to practice my communication. I have always wanted to travel and once I saw this opportunity with all these elements that were perfect for me, I knew I had to push for it!
As with all travel, this trip is quite expensive. I got accepted for the highly competitive Gilman International Scholarship, which is a huge help! However, it has not covered everything. Therefore, I wanted to reach out and see if some may support my journey! Some expenses include the following:
- Plane Ticket
- Rent while away
- Passport Application
- Food, Clothing, and other supplies like outlet converters
- Remaining costs of the program
I have set the goal to a part of the overall cost. I know times are tough right now, but if you are interested in supporting my participation is this trip, anything is greatly appreciated!
