May is Crohn's and Colitis awareness month!
Crohn's and Colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease that over 75,000 Australians have been diagnosed with.
This awareness is very important to me as I have suffered with Crohn's disease for about 7 years now. At just 18 years of age I was happy & healthy partying hard with not a care in the world. Little did I know a few months later my life would change forever; 30kgs lighter, a lot of pain and confusion with doctors telling me I’m young and healthy, despite being in unimaginable daily pain, I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease.
Like most people I had never heard of this and was unsure what I was in for. First getting shown photos of my insides which looked like something from a smoke packet(!!) to taking medication that made you feel worse, with doctors explaining your chance of liver failure and cancers on these drugs. This led to anxiety and depression and multiple hospital visits all whilst having to hide your pain everyday from employers, customers, family and friends. When someone asks ‘how ya going’ the last thing they want to here is ‘ahhh not real good mate’. So you keep the smile every day and keep pushing forward.
I had my beautiful girlfriend take me to ED only a month ago for what would be my 2nd bowel obstruction as multiple hard drugs haven’t worked for me as yet. For all those people who have said to me that they will be there if I need anything - here’s your chance! At this moment there is no government funding for research, we do not have a cure. Thousands of people like me in Australia alone are hanging on donations as they are all that is giving us progress to this horrible disease! So please SHARE if you care and donate a small portion of this weekends beer money for me and thousands of other sufferers.

More information about Australian Crohn's & Colitis Association (ACCA): Crohn's & Colitis Australia's principal activities in the course of the period 1 July 2015 - 31 December 2016 included: 1. providing supportive services to persons diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and their families; 2. providing information to persons diagnosed with IBD and their families, friends, and other interest parties; 3. generating and fostering awareness, advocacy and education programs targeted at persons diagnosed with IBD, their families, health professionals and the general public; 4. assisting, supporting, participating in research studies for the benefit of persons diagnosed and their families; 5. fundraising to facilitate support for both pure and clinical research into the cause of, and the cure for, IBD; 6. conducting an organisational audit of IBD Quality of Care in hospitals around Australia.
