Hi, my name is Drishti, I was born and brought up in Bombay, India and currently reside in Dublin, Ireland.
I’m raising funds for underprivileged children (2) who are not able to afford their school fees and are at the risk of losing access to the basic educational infrastructure.
Many of us come from families which regard education as the highest form of character and intelligence development. But what about those who are underprivileged?
My mum has been a teacher for over 25 years in a school in Mumbai and whilst most of the children in that school can afford education, some just cannot. There are many socio-economic factors for those who cannot - financial difficulties or disadvantages, gender disparity etc etc, I can keep going!
Imagine, the basic right of education that we all were privileged to have, suddenly being taken away due to various factors. Crazy isn’t it?
Ever since I started working, I made it my goal to sponsor one child’s education each year and I’m grateful that I’ve had a chance to do this since 2019.
One might ask what is the process to decide who is assisted - there isn’t any. Me and my mom have an elaborate conversation on those kids who excel in studies but are at the risk of being removed from the school due to fees being overdue for multiple years and I simply assist financially. Mom then makes a direct transfer to the school for the fees and we get an official receipt from the school confirming the payment.
To be honest, this has been extremely personal thing for me and I don’t like talking about it with anyone in the slightest. But, Gratitude flows through me every time I think of this and I’d love to have another chance and help more and more children every year.
This year, the goal is the same as previous year - €600 fundraiser until end of this year to sponsor two more children. The process is going to be same, just two more children added to the happiness bunch.
With that, is this a cause which you’d be interested in helping a few more children? It’s completely ok even if you donate 500 rupees / €1.
What matters is that you’ve done your best, isn’t it.
