Our names are Pak Mur & Alfira from Suara Indonesia Dance - a Sydney based Indonesian dance company. We teach the art of Acehnese body percussion across Australia in schools and communities. Aceh holds a deep and personal place in our hearts.
This is a community defined by incredible resilience, having bravely rebuilt after the devastating 2004 Tsunami. We both worked in post tsunami Aceh teaching dance as trauma healing. Tragically, they are now facing another catastrophic disaster, with unprecedented floods destroying homes and vital infrastructure and road & bridge closures stopping aid from getting in.
We are immediately raising funds to provide relief for affected communities and families.
In late November/early December 2025, torrential rainfall and a rare Tropical Cyclone (Senyar) triggered severe flooding and landslides across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The situation is dire, and we have family and close community members directly affected who are currently without basic necessities like food, clean water, and shelter and wider devastation for the region:
Isolation- Roads and bridges have collapsed, critically cutting off access to tens of thousands of displaced families needing food, clean water, and medical aid.
Widespread Damage- There is significant loss of life, destroyed homes, ongoing power outages, and submerged farmlands, devastating the livelihoods of local farmers.
Children at Risk- Thousands of children are out of school as buildings are now emergency shelters.
100% of all funds raised will go directly to the affected community. We are aiming to raise funds for baby formula, womens healthcare, educational books and supporting resources for children across Aceh and where the need is greatest.
Please help us reach the most isolated families. Thank you for your kindness and support.
