Help a Veteran in Need: Critical Support for Car and RV Repairs
Hello friends and community members,
I hope this message finds you well. I’ve always been one to lend a hand when needed, but today, I find myself in a position where I need to ask for your help. As a veteran of the US armed forces and an active member of our community, this isn’t easy for me, but the past year has been exceptionally challenging.
In December, I purchased a Kia hybrid to help my wife commute from Menifee to Irvine, CA, hoping to save on our monthly gas expenses, which were reaching $900. The car did help, cutting our fuel costs in half. However, in April, the engine unexpectedly failed—a known issue with this model that the dealer didn’t disclose. We’ve already spent $2,500 on diagnostic fees and rentals. After replacing the engine, it broke down again three days ago due to severe carbon build-up in the intake manifold. Repairing this will cost another $1,300, and we’re still waiting for reimbursement from a class action lawsuit.
I live in an RV, and due to my membership with Thousand Trails, I must move my home every 21 days. This is not a choice but a critical necessity. My truck is essential for this lifestyle, but it now needs a new transmission, which could cost up to $10,000. Without this repair, I simply cannot move my home, putting me in a very precarious situation.
Additionally, while moving my RV recently, the hitch broke, causing the RV to slide into the cab and shatter the back window. Insurance will cover some costs, but I’m facing another $500 for the deductible, plus $4,000 for hitch repairs.
To make matters worse, due to issues with the purchase of my current RV, which has resulted in ongoing legal action, I was already dramatically far behind financially. Living on a fixed income from military disability, these unexpected expenses have pushed my past my limits to handle this alone.
I’m reaching out to you, my community, for support during this critical time. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference. Your generosity will help cover these urgent repair costs and allow me to continue to support my family and maintain our home on wheels.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness and support.
Sincerely,
Travis
