Hi everyone,
This fall, I will have the honor to continue my educational journey at NYU to become a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT). As a first-generation and low-income student, I have faced a lot of financial barriers to pursue higher education. I would not be here today if it were not for my family and friends, and today I am asking if you would donate to help me achieve this goal. I would be grateful to receive any amount of financial support via my GoFundMe account, or directly at Venmo or Zelle. No donation is too small, and all proceeds will significantly help me pursue my dream. Below, I share a little bit of my background and why I have decided to pursue OT.

Where my passion started:
Since I can remember I have grown up with an alcoholic father. However, when I was in high school, I became involved with Future Farmers of America which gave me an opportunity to raise a steer. It was during this experience that my problems at home seemed to diminish as my steer posed as a sort of therapy that helped improve my mental health. It was not until college that I realized that the tasks that I had been performing with my steer are tools that Occupational Therapists use to treat patients. Since then I have dreamed of pursuing a career that would better the lives of others facing similar challenges.
I learned early in my undergraduate career that pursuing occupational therapy was my dream career. I began to volunteer with various therapists in Los Angeles, Morgan Hill, and Redwood City and learned how to treat patient using different tools. Now, four years out of college and three application cycles of rejection behind me, I will begin my road to becoming an Occupational Therapist; more motivated than ever and ready to take on the world.
As a future Occupational Therapist, I plan to utilize animals as therapeutic tools to treat patients. Just as I have faced challenges in my personal life with my father, I want to provide therapy for patients who need it the most. My goal is to provide Occupational Therapy resources to low-income, immigrant, and minority populations. I hope to work in outpatient or mental health facilities for youth, providing them with knowledge, a voice, and a way to live their lives as fully as possible. This work will help lead me to my long-term dream; to one day utilize animals to assist in therapy. I will have my own farm where I can utilize animals of all kinds as therapeutic tools that I will use to practice Occupational Therapy.

Donde comenzó mi pasión:
Desde que tengo memoria, he crecido con un padre alcohólico. Sin embargo, cuando estaba en la escuela secundaria, me involucré con un programa llamado “Future Farmers of America”, lo que me dio la oportunidad de criar un buey. Fue durante esta experiencia que mis problemas en casa parecían disminuirse a medida que mi buey me ayudaba como una terapia para mejorar mi salud mental. No fue hasta la universidad que me di cuenta de que el trabajo que había estado realizando con mi buey son herramientas que los terapeutas ocupacionales usan para tratar a los pacientes. Desde entonces, he soñado con seguir una carrera que mejoraría la vida de otras personas que enfrentan desafíos similares.
Al principio de mi carrera universitaria aprendí que la terapia ocupacional era la carrera de mis sueños. Comencé a trabajar de voluntaria con varias terapeutas en Los Ángeles, Morgan Hill y Redwood City y aprendí a tratar al paciente con diferentes herramientas. Ahora, cuatro años después de la universidad y tres ciclos de rechazo a los programas de maestría detrás de mí, comenzaré mi camino para convertirme en un terapeuta ocupacional; más motivada que nunca y listo para conquistar el mundo.
Como futuro terapeuta ocupacional, planeo utilizar animales como herramientas terapéuticas para tratar pacientes. Así como me he enfrentado a desafíos en mi vida personal con mi padre, quiero proporcionar terapia para los pacientes que más lo necesitan. Mi objetivo es proporcionar recursos de terapia ocupacional a poblaciones de bajos ingresos, inmigrantes y minorías. Espero trabajar en clínicas o centros de salud mental para jóvenes, brindándoles conocimiento, una voz y una forma de vivir sus vidas lo mas plenamente posible. Este trabajo ayudará a alcanzar a mi sueño a largo plazo; hasta un día utilizar animales para ayudar en la terapia. Tendré mi propia granja donde podré utilizar animales de todo tipo como herramientas terapéuticas que usaré para practicar la terapia ocupacional.
