I'm a mom of three fighting a rare and aggressive breast tumor that has already come back—and now I need to travel out of state for specialized care that could save my life.

Hello friends, family, and kind strangers,

My name is Cristina. I have three children—ages 10, 12, and 19—who still need their mom, and I am doing everything in my power to stay here for them.

I was diagnosed with a rare type of breast tumor called a Phyllodes Tumor. These tumors make up less than 1% of all breast tumors and are known for growing quickly and returning even after surgery.

I’ve already undergone multiple surgeries to remove the tumor, but despite that, it has come back—and now it is affecting both breasts.

Because treatment options are so limited, I now have the opportunity to travel to Duke University, where I will be under the care of Dr. Laura Rosenberger, one of the few specialists in the country focused on treating and researching these aggressive tumors.

This gives me hope—not just for myself, but for other women who may face this diagnosis in the future.

But getting there is not easy.

The trip is a 13-hour drive, and I will need to travel back and forth often for ongoing monitoring and treatment. These tumors have a high risk of spreading quickly, so consistent follow-up is critical.

I have spent my life being present for my children—working from home in any way I could so I could raise them myself. From sewing and baking to running a home daycare and taking on whatever work I could find, my focus has always been my kids.

Now, I need help.

Mi nombre es Cristina. Tengo tres hijos, de 10, 12 y 19 años, que todavía necesitan a su madre, y estoy haciendo todo lo que está en mi poder para quedarme aquí para ellos.

Me diagnosticaron un tipo raro de tumor de mama llamado tumor de Phyllodes. Estos tumores representan menos del 1% de todos los tumores de mama y son conocidos por crecer rápidamente y regresar incluso después de la cirugía.

Ya me he sometido a múltiples cirugías para extirpar el tumor, pero a pesar de eso, ha regresado, y ahora está afectando a ambos senos.

Debido a que las opciones de tratamiento son tan limitadas, ahora tengo la oportunidad de viajar a la Universidad de Duke, donde estaré bajo el cuidado de la doctora Laura Rosenberger, una de las pocas especialistas en el país enfocadas en tratar e investigar estos tumores agresivos.

Esto me da esperanza, no solo para mí, sino para otras mujeres que pueden enfrentar este diagnóstico en el futuro.

Pero llegar allí no es fácil.

El viaje es de 13 horas en coche, y tendré que viajar de ida y vuelta a menudo para un seguimiento y tratamiento continuos. Estos tumores tienen un alto riesgo de diseminarse rápidamente, por lo que es fundamental un seguimiento constante.

He pasado mi vida estando presente para mis hijos, trabajando desde casa de cualquier manera que pudiera para poder criarlos yo mismo. Desde coser y hornear hasta administrar una guardería en casa y asumir cualquier trabajo que pudiera encontrar, mi atención siempre han sido mis hijos.

Ahora, necesito ayuda.
