Crissys Medical & Liver Transplant

Cristina "Crissy" is a beautiful, strong, motivated, ambitious, mother, daughter and friend. She is 27 years old and a mother of two amazing little ones. Lucas and Liv are her world! Crissy takes on every obstacle and challenge the world gives her and kicks its butt. Her daughter Liv was diagnosed last year at the age of 2 with Autism. Though it was a challenge for Crissy like everything else she was going to address it head on. She made sure Liv got amazing therapies and that she would be the best Liv she could be.

In recent months, Crissy started to face her own health battles. In November 2016 Crissy started having a lot of pain in her stomach and the doctors felt it was her appendix and she had an appendectomy. Unfortunately, Crissy continued to be in pain and discomfort and returned to the hospital. The doctors decided in January to remove her gallbladder. During surgery they noticed something on her bile duct and wanted to research further.   Bile ducts are the tubes that carry bile from the liver to the gallbladder and small intestine. They did a ERCP which is short for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. It is a procedure that looks at the bile ducts through an endoscope. Upon completion they informed her that they did not believe it was cancer but PSC Primary sclerosing cholangitis. (PSC) is a disease of the bile ducts that causes inflammation and obliterative fibrosis of bile ducts inside and/or outside of the liver. She was referred to Mayo to start the transplant evaluation process. Mayo completed an MRI and had a suspension that the tumor on her liver was cancer.  They did another ERCP and biopsy and on March 15, 2017 diagnosed her with Cholangiocarcinoma/Bile Duct Cancer.  The doctors will complete the rest of the transplant evaluation process and will begin her consult for chemo and radiation. During this time they will also perform a few exploratory surgeries to ensure that the cancer is contained to the bile duct and not anywhere else. At this time they have estimated about 3-6 weeks of intense treatment to try and shrink the tumor while she awaits a transplant.

The liver will need to come from someone of similar age and size with O + blood type. Unfortunately a live donor is not an option and will require a liver from a brain dead donor.

We all have faith that God is going to provide for Crissy and help her through this battle! In the interim, we need all the support and prayers during this process. As mentioned before Crissy is a single mom with two young children. Crissy has been and will continue to be out of work throughout this process and her mother Tracy has also had to quit her job to be a full time care taker for Crissy. The medical bills and expenses will be extremely costly and any help will be greatly appreciated. God Bless you all who have spent the time to read this and help support our beautiful Crissy. (I will use this site to post updates as I have them.)
