Crisis Text Line Fundraiser

Deducible
12 friends will run the 200 mile Hood to Coast relay in August in the name of a former Boston College teammate, Michael Gannon, to raise money for the suicide prevention non-profit, Crisis Text Line. Please consider donating to this cause we deeply care about.

BACKGROUND: In the spring of 2012 at Boston College, we lost someone we loved. Mike was a force in and out of the pool. Easy to befriend. Easy to make you laugh. He was meant to graduate in 2014.

Mental health is a taboo thing to both talk about and seek help for. It forfeits a vulnerability that “you are not okay” and can’t take care of yourself. That said, it is a very real and very fragile thing. In light of this, we will use this race as a platform to raise money in Mike’s name for Crisis Text Line.

Our race bid is paid for - 100% of your generous donations will go towards the vital work of the Crisis Text Line. In 2016, nearly 45,000 Americans age 10 or older died by suicide (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). In California alone, suicide rates rose 14.8% from 1999 to 2016. The Crisis Text Line has received over ~75 million texts since launching in 2013. This non-profit serves those experiencing suicidal thoughts, drug addiction, sexual abuse, eating disorders, and so on.
