️ Help Me Rebuild: From Research to Remedy of Hope
My Safety Is At Risk: My buildings management company consistently harassed me since 2021 when I started organizing against the unsafe and unlivable housing conditions.
- My apartment was broken into and my bedroom door was removed
- My personal mail has been opened and tampered with daily
- Most recently, my inflation check was opened and a letter that contained my social security number.
- My car was tampered with this past weekend
I never imagined that after earning a doctorate in public health in August 2025 —studying how housing impacts health—I’d still be living the very crisis I researched for years.
My dissertation at NYU Grossman School of Medicine examined how housing instability, gentrification, and landlord neglect harm health in New York City. I wrote about lead & mold violations, brown water, cracked walls, and unlivable conditions—never expecting to experience them firsthand and in a 3 year court battle with my landlord fighting back a retaliatory eviction case against me because I demanded repairs. As an organizer I've been been able to about 10 tenants obtain lead testing and abatement and over a bout 15 apartments have been repaired.
I’ve lived through these conditions it for 10 years. Despite my education and work, I can’t afford to move. I’ve applied for benefits and support—unemployment, SNAP, housing help—and been denied each one.
As competent and resilient as I am, I am one step away from a shelter. (Plus yall know Mr. Orange is in the White House defunding Public Health! )
Going through this has made one thing clear: I am called to build what I need right now.
That vision is Remedy of Hope International—a nonprofit that will provide transitional housing and stabilization support for women in crisis: those going through divorce, job loss, domestic violence, post-graduate burnout, or mental health breakdowns.
Because if a woman with a doctorate, a strong faith, and years of community service can still fall through the cracks, imagine how many others are quietly struggling too.
But before I can build that space for others, I need stability myself.
