My name is Guiga Vieira, and I am friends with Cris. My husband is also her family doctor. As many of you know, Cris recently started her fight against breast cancer. She underwent bilateral mastectomy last week and will soon start the next phase of her treatment with chemotherapy in a few weeks. Through all of this, she has been so brave. Cris approaches all of these challenges with a positive attitude and her beatiful smile. Cris has a heart of gold and despite all that she is going through, she has never asked anyone for help.
During one of our recent conversations, Cris mentioned to me that she had done some research on things that could be done to prevent hair loss during chemotherapy. She told me that "it took 10-years to grow my hair and I'm going to do everything that I can to save it." She came a cross a novel treatment called the "Cold Cap" which was recently approved by the FDA as an effective strategy to help prevent chemo-related hair loss. I've included a video about it below, but basically it's a cap that cools the scalp and decreases circulation to the scalp during chemotherapy sessions. By doing this the hair follicles are exposed to less chemotherapy and therefore, more likely to be preserved. Each time she gets chemo (4 sessions of chemo are planned right now), she will use the "Cold Cap" at a cost of $500/session. Unfortunately, health insurance does not cover the cost of the "Cold Cap". Despite having 'good health insurance' Cris will have out-of-pocket costs of over $10,000.
Cris and her husband Fabio did not know that all of us were doing this for her. She recently found out and was very thankfull that we are going to pull together and help "Save Her Hair". Any amount will help. We have power in numbers. Let's do this for Cris.

Alguns dias atras ela teve uma cirurgia grande. Mas apesar de tudo isso, ela e uma guerreira. Ela tem enfrentado tudo isso com uma atitude positiva e sempre com um sorriso no rosto. Apesar de tudo o que esta passando, a Cris tem um coracao de ouro, e em momento algum pediu ajuda de ninguem.
Em uma de nossas conversas, ela mencionou que fez uma pesquisa sobre uma "toca" que ajuda a "prevenir" ou "diminuir" a queda dos cabelos durante as sessoes de quimoterapia. Ela ate brincou que demorou 10 anos pra deixar o cabelo crescer, e que fosse possivel, iria tentar usar essa toca. Ai veio minha ideia.... porque nao juntar todos nos que de alguma maneira queremos ajudar, e tentar arrecar esse custo pra ela?? Por isso essa campanha!! Qualquer quantia ajuda.... Ela e o Fabio souberam esses dias sobre essa campanha... tentei manter surpresa, mas nao deu certo!!!! Eles descobriram e ficaram super agradecidos!!
