Cris was an extraordinary artist, musician, and composer whose talent, generosity, and spirit touched countless lives. More than her remarkable creative gifts, Cris was someone who brought people together in unforgettable ways, creating community, connection, and love wherever she went. The family is deeply moved by the outpouring of support and love coming from all directions in honour of Cris.
On Friday May 15th, Cris tragically passed away in a car accident while returning from her father’s funeral in Northern Alberta. She was travelling with her wife and life partner, Rebecca “Bobby” Benson, who remains in critical condition in an Alberta hospital after sustaining multiple life-threatening injuries.
Anyone who has met Bobby knows she is an incredible person in her own right—kind, loving, and Cris’ greatest supporter. Bobby now faces an unimaginably difficult road to recovery while also navigating life without her beloved partner.
Bobby’s family and loved ones are currently with her in Edmonton, supporting her through this critical time and preparing for the long journey of healing ahead.
At this time, Cris and Rebecca’s family, friends, and community would like to thank everyone who has already reached out with messages of love, offers of support, and donations. We are also reaching out to the wider community for assistance with immediate and upcoming expenses resulting from this tragedy.
Funds raised will help:
- Expenses allowing Bobby’s family and chosen family to remain close by in Edmonton, including transportation, temporary accommodations, hospital parking, and meals, so she is surrounded by care and support during recovery.
- Funeral and memorial costs, easing some of the financial burden during this heartbreaking time.
- Expenses associated with the Medivac process so Bobby can return home to Toronto.
