Cricket The Corgi's Surgery

Hello to all friends, family, and admirers of Cricket The Corgi! And for those of you who are unfamiliar, this is my friend Dayna's beloved best friend, Cricket.

Who is Cricket? To give you a bit of background, Cricket was born on a farm in Americus, Georgia. Dayna picked him out because of the little heart on his head, and it was love at first sight. Raised a southern gentleman, Dayna and Cricket moved across country to California in 2012 where they currently reside in Alhambra with Cricket's dad, right outside of Los Angeles. Most people who know Cricket know he's special. Although a jerk at times, this dog has more personality than most humans. Cricket loves to go everywhere with his mom and dad, including hikes, work, camping, etc. He’s an adventure dog in a small package. Cricket's age (turning 10 in November) hasn't slowed him down even AFTER tearing his left rear ACL when he was 5 years old! He healed from that as if it never happened. But now...

What happened? On Sunday, September 23rd, Cricket was at the park, running with another dog after a ball when he suddenly hobbled over to me, unable to put his right rear leg onto the ground. After a trip to the emergency vet the following evening, it was speculated that he might have (another) torn ACL and could require surgery. We learned just today during a surgery consultation that he has not only an ACL tear, but also a meniscus tear. Surgery has been scheduled for Monday, October 1st. Because Cricket is almost 10 years old (twice the age from his first surgery), putting him under anesthesia is a higher risk and recovery will be a little longer, a little harder.

How much? Dayna received an estimate of surgery costing a maximum of $3,482.74, excluding the emergency vet visit, previous medication, surgery consultation, follow-up visits, and budget for any potential complications post-op considering his age. I've set the GoFundMe with a goal of $4,000 to account for all applicable medical expenses. This is a hefty and unexpected chunk of money that Cricket's parents were not expecting.

This is going to be a journey for Cricket and his parents. To help alleviate the financial burden, I've set up this GoFundMe so they can maintain their focus on Cricket and his recovery post-op. Cricket and his parents are dear friends to many of us and have had such an impact on our lives and has helped us in our time of need. I'd love for us to be able to give back. I'll be posting surgery updates starting next week to keep everyone informed of his recovery. If we exceed our set goal, all additional funds will be donated to the local humane society. Cricket is a strong corgi and is going to come out of this stronger than before! We thank you for taking the time to read, and we appreciate your support.
