Emergency Surgery for Zuke

Donation protected

Meet Zuke. She is a 6 month old Shepherd-Husky Mix from just outside Owen Sound, Ontario. Zuke is happy and rambunctious, loves to sit on your lap in the car (no matter how big she's gotten) and is always down for a snuggle. She loves her parents, Jess and Paul more than anything else.

On Wednesday, December 30, 2015 Zuke and Paul went on a walk to the Klondike near their house, a walk they do all the time. On the way back, Zuke was scared by another dog and ran into the road, and was tragically hit by a car. She was rushed to the vetrinary hospital in Paisley in extreme pain, where they gave her a sedative and told Paul there was nothing they could do at that location.

Once she was no longer in pain, Zuke partially returned to her normal self. She was awake, licking Paul, and responding to the sound of Jess' voice on the phone. She was taken the the companion animal clinic at Guelph University, where they explained to us that she had fractured her pelvis in 4 places, and will need surgery.

Jess and Paul have emptied their savings for the $4,000 deposit at the vet, and need help with the rest of the funds. The surgery was quoted as $6 - 8,000, depending on Zuke's recovery time and needs. However, because it is the holidays and the clinic has to call in the surgeon and staff for overtime, the price has been raised to $10 - 15,000.

This is why we need your help, and we need it soon. Zukes stay at the vet is slowly becoming more and more expensive. She is still however, young and full of life. Visiting her in the hospital, she wags her tail and whines to her mom, as if begging for help and companionship. Zuke has a very good chance at a normal life if she has the surgery. She should recover fully in a year and be able to live a long and happy life chasing moles and playing with friends.

Please help. It's so heartbreaking to see Zuke in pain, but its almost more so to see Jess and Paul struggle to save her. Even the smallest amount makes a difference, and is a step towards Zuke getting back on her feet and back to being the happy farm dog she was meant to be.
