Hello All!

As you may or may not know, my sister, Gisel, and her husband, Nathan, are expecting a baby with a Congenital Heart Defect (Truncus Arteriosus). Only between 200-250 babies are born with this condition a year in the US and my future niece is one of them.

They have transferred all medical care to Iowa City and have been traveling for studies and appointments the last 3 months. A plan has been developed by their medical team, and Baby is due to be with us on October the 25th. Because of this very critical condition, she will need open heart surgery shortly after birth (as of now they are thinking a week or two after). Since baby will be needing the constant care and supervision of the medical staff, she will be admitted for at least 6-8 weeks, and for this reason, the Phelan family will be relocating to the Iowa City area until baby is discharged from the hospital. God has been extremely gracious and has provided a place for them to rent and stay comfortably as a family. We have seen the hand of the Lord throughout this trial providing comfort and much needed peace, and its for this reason that I come to you in faith, asking for your prayers and support. Since baby's condition is fairly serious and lifelong, the medical expenses will continue. There will be many medical bills (for Gisel and baby) as well as changes for the little ones as they navigate a complicated season as a family.

As the time comes close I will continue to update everyone. For now, auntie is getting ready with extra loving and hugging.
