Crew Club Hawks Hardship Fund

On the 24th of August, VYD and the Crew Club are playing a charity football match to raise money for the Crew Club Hawks Hardship Fund.

The Crew Club Hawks gives an affordable sports offer in the Whitehawk estate, which is among the most deprived areas in Brighton & Hove and in England, with six Lower Super Output Areas (LSOAs) within the area being among the 7% most deprived in England.

Whilst we ensure the fees for the season are very low, some will still inevitably struggle to pay. The funds raised from this match will go towards ensuring that nobody is turned away for either their ability to play or to pay.

The club currently serves 60 children across five age groups, and is looking this season to add two new teams including a girls team! This is addressing a lack of provision that previously excluded many from participation. Beyond football, the club fosters community cohesion, resilience, and confidence, with parents and local residents actively engaging as spectators and volunteers to help set up sessions and take goals down at the end.

These sessions improve physical and mental wellbeing, tackling social isolation, poor mental health, and related challenges such as petty crime. The club instills a sense of belonging, friendship, and pride in the area. Our coaches create an inclusive, positive environment, promoting VYD’s values of respect, fairness, and encouragement.
