Many of you know my mom Debbie Capizzi was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer this past October. She underwent surgery and at the time the doctors were optimistic about how well the surgery went. While it was already stage IV, they could see how strong my mom was and that she was a fighter. She started chemo in November and unfortunately did not have a good reaction. We learned the cancer had spread to her liver. She decided to enjoy the holidays with her family and would begin a different form of treatment in January called immunotherapy. She would have begun this treatment on January 16th.
Unfortunately, Debbie was admitted to the hospital that morning. They found she had suffered from multiple strokes in the back of her brain. Because of her condition and the cancer being so advanced at this point, treating the strokes would have been the end for her that day. They admitted her for observation and to provide comfort measures. She is currently still in the hospital but things are looking down and she won't be with us much longer. She is being kept comfortable while the end nears. My mom is the strongest woman I know, and she has proven it time and time again over the past few months. I will forever be grateful that I was able to share so much of my life with her. My mom did not want to have 'some fancy funeral.' Her wishes were to be cremated and for her close friends and family to have a memorial to remember her. Any and all donations will be used for her cremation services, memorial, and related expenses. This has not been an easy battle, but I know my mom would want everybody to remember her for the good times, the joy, the laughter that she brought to us all. Thank you all for taking the time to read my mom's story.
