Hello everyone, my dad, Stewart Charles Knapp Jr., also known as “Chuck” to family, friends, and the North Olmsted, Ohio, and Westlake, Ohio communities, passed away at Malachi House in Cleveland yesterday on July 4th, 2026, following a four-year journey of Stage 4 Lung and Bone Cancer.

My dad did the best he could in life with the cards that were dealt to him. He lost his father at the young age of 10 years old after his father served in World War II, and he lost his mother at the age of 24 years old after she battled her own cancer. My dad, despite losing both of his parents very young, went on to become a father of two and a husband. He loved me, my brother, and my mother the best he could while experiencing his own pain and heartbreak. Chuck struggled through his life with that pain and, at the end of his life, used that pain to channel strength to fight a very intense cancer battle of his own to spend the little time he had left with his family. Chuck fought hard with the amazing support of his family, UH Seidman Cancer Center Team, and the staff of Malachi House.

Chuck was a well-known, respected, and long-term employee of Great Northern Mall in North Olmsted, Ohio, as the Director of Security and Public Safety Operations for over 40 years. He was an avid fisher and golfer and enjoyed being outside in the fresh air and walking through Clague Park with man’s best friend.

My father was given six months to live almost two months ago. We thought we had more time with him after chemo and radiation stopped working. Unfortunately, we were so focused on making the most of each day with him that we were not focusing on preparing for the ending.

I am attempting to raise funds for his cremation costs and hold a memorial service for him. Unfortunately, my dad had no life insurance policy, and due to the company he dedicated 40 years of his life to that was continuously sold to new owners, he had no retirement offered as well. Any amount would help. His sister lives out of state, and I would additionally like to be able to bring her to Ohio to say goodbye to her brother. Thank you for your help.
