WHAT HAPPENED?

"It's weird. Waking up one day and life as you know it is normal and everyone is happy, alive, and healthy. You never what storms are going to hit you and how your life can change in the blink of an eye. Even as I sit here and I type, I am still in shock and disbelief.

On Wednesday, March 3rd, it was like any morning. I was unusually excited because I had an important meeting for my upcoming business launch, Melanin Essentials.  I woke up and made breakfast as Milan got ready for work. Kissed my husband goodbye, and began getting my girls ready for the day.

I stopped to take a break as I was getting light headed and nauseous. This is not how I wanted to announce it, but I aside from my 2 children, I am also 14 weeks pregnant. So I was getting dizzy and light headed (a common side effect of pregnancy) and went to my bedroom window to sit on my bed and take a break.

As I sat in my window, I saw a thick black smoke hovering over the top right corner of my roof. I thought it was from the farm in the back of my apartment complex for a second, but then a deep gut feeling told me, "no it's too close". So I ran to the other window and what I saw next I will never forget.

Outside neighbors, running and screaming. With no shoes or pants on, I grabbed my 4 1/2 year old daughter and my 1 1/2 year daughter and ran for the door. With no shoes, and nothing else but our own bodies, we ran and never looked back. Hours later, we watched as smoked consumed our entire apartment complex. Days later, we found out the fire was started by a neighbor who left a cigarette on the outside balcony.

It's now been days since the fire and our family has recieved so much love and support. One day after the fire, we were told that we have one chance to go into the house and grab what we can because they are tearing the entire complex down and rebuilding it. Our apartment had smoke and water damage, so almost all of our belongings were affected. Without our knowing, we found out that our renters insurance policy lapsed in October. So we are not going to have any financial assistance with this next move.

SO WHAT'S NEXT?

First, I would like to thank the Red Cross for providing us with a temporary place to stay for the next 5 days, as we search for another home. I would also like to thank
*Tiffani Manley, for immediate  love, support, housing-right after the fire
*my friends at Assets,
*my home church family at The Gathering and other church members at Campus Cupboard and Millersville Council of Churches,
*Willow Run Social Services Director Aimee Clementee
*BCM Campus Ministries
*& All of our family & friends who are calling, praying, and hoping for brighter days with us!

HOW WILL THIS MONEY HELP?

-Many people were asking if they could send us money so I made this page as a way for people to donate what they could. So what exactly do we need the money for?

----We are currently looking for a new home. With a rent budget around $600-$800 the usual first month's rent/security deposit EST is$1200-$1600. (So we will need financial assistance with this immediate cost)

----We were not able to salvage any of our mattresses or our living room furniture. ( So we will need financial assistance with repurchasing this).

---With not having a home, we do not have a kitchen, so a lot of our meals have to be eaten out right now or donated to us, (So we will need financial assistance with this).

OVERALL, I understand that $2,500 will not cover all of these financial needs. We are not looking for these expenses to be completely covered... we are just asking for assistance in easing the burden of having these immediate needs. Our hope is that we can raise more but this estimate is here because we truly mean "any amount will help"! Thank you so much!

WHEN DO WE NEED THE MONEY BY?
These funds are needed as soon as possible because we have 5 more days in this temporary space, until we have to leave. After that, we will continue praying, zealously searching for a new home, and brighter days. We will still  take donations afterwards... but just to give a timeline for those wondering.
