We would be delighted if you could help us to launch a literary competition for Jamaican children. We want to hear their experiences of Covid19.
With your donation of £1 (or its equivalent) you can help us secure the cash prizes.
The children's competition:
There are two age classifications:
8 - 12 (no more than 500 words) and 13 -17 (no more than 750 words). Entries should be of real life experiences during the Covid19 pandemic. Applicants can only enter once.
There are three awards for each age group:
1st Prize: JA$10,000
2nd Prize: JA$ 7,500
3rd Prize:JA$5,000
Judges will be looking for`;
- An engaging narrative voice
- Clear Communication
- Writer's flair
- Technical Accuracy
- Factual Accuracy (especially regarding Covid19)
Email us to receive an application form. Each entry and application form must be submitted together to [email redacted] by 11pm (EST) on 28th June, 2020. Winners will be announced at the end of July 2020.
The competition organiser, Luke Williams, is a Jamaican actor and former journalist who now teaches English and Media Studies in London, England.
FUN
We would also like you to demonstrate your own creativity by taking a photo that sums up the pandemic experience for you. This may be a photo of an object, scenery, person, situation, etc. Submit each photograph to Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/241288966939071/

You may:
- submit multiple entries
- make a donation without a photography entry
- donate any amount
The amount you donate can be done anonymously, if you prefer. Photos must be suitable for public viewing (where there is doubt, adjudicators will make the final determination). The top 10 entries will be featured on the page during the summer.
If donations exceed the prize fund, the surplus will be presented as commendation awards or donated to a Jamaican children's literacy charity /project in Jamaica, to be agreed by public online vote. Thank you.
