My name is Suri, founder of Hijas del Mar in El Salvador. I empower girls through surfing and skateboarding, using sport as a tool to build confidence, resilience, and life skills. My mission is to create safe spaces where girls grow strong, independent, and believe in their potential.

Hijas del Mar was born in Playa El Zonte with a clear mission: to support girls and young teens from our community as they build confidence, discover their self-worth, and develop skills that will help them navigate life with strength and dignity.

Surfing is our entry point—but our impact goes far beyond the ocean. Through surf lessons, the girls learn discipline, perseverance, respect, and teamwork. Every wave becomes a lesson; every fall, an opportunity to rise stronger.

For 2026, we are raising $3,000 to continue and expand our activities and to ensure we can meet both educational and basic needs of the girls we support.

These funds will help us cover:

• New surfboards

• Leashes, wax, fins, and essential surf equipment

• Safe and guided surf classes

• Workshops and learning activities led by different professionals (life skills, leadership, creativity, self-care)

• Basic materials required to run these workshops

• Psychological and emotional support, as many of the girls face challenging personal realities and need professional guidance

• Basic necessities, when needed, to support the girls’ well-being and stability

Most of these girls would not have access to these opportunities without external support. Hijas del Mar strives to be a safe space where they feel seen, heard, and supported—while gaining the emotional tools, confidence, and resilience needed to gradually build a better future.
