My name is Cynthia https://www.facebook.com/share/r/17ET9LZcw9/?mibextid=wwXIfrand I am reaching out on behalf of my beloved husband, Walter Lewis, or as I call him, "Bigboy." Walter is a disabled veteran who served our country with honor and dedication. He has also been an educator for over 31 years and a positive influence in our community, always giving his time and heart to help others.
Walter most recently filled in as a substitute Assistant Principal at Huebner Elementary. In a few short months, Walter developed such wonderful rapport with staff and students that when it was time to leave, the entire school surprised him with a farewell parade.
Following that, our lives were turned upside down when Walter suffered a sudden medical emergency (cervical cord compression) that left him paralyzed. The shock and emotional toll has been overwhelming, but we are determined to do everything we can to support his recovery and help him adapt to this new reality. Walter is a fighter, and he has slowly been improving to the surprise of the medical staff. Through the help of rehab, Walter has slowly regained ROM and strength in his legs and is now able to ambulate with a rolling walker and rollator for short distances. He has also improved his ROM and strength in his upper body, but there is still a long road ahead.
One of our most urgent needs is to make our bathroom handicap accessible. Right now, simple daily tasks have become incredibly difficult for Walter, and we want to provide him with as much independence and comfort as possible at home. The costs of these modifications, on top of mounting medical bills and other expenses, are more than we can manage alone.
We are reaching out to friends, family, and kind-hearted supporters for help during this incredibly difficult time. Walter is the type of person who leaves a lasting impact wherever he is. If Walter made an impact in your life, we ask that you consider supporting this GoFundMe. No matter how small, it would mean the world to us as we adjust to these new challenges. Your generosity will help us create a safer, more accessible home for Walter and give us hope as we move forward.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for considering our family.
