I'm Nina, and I am a singer-songwriter and artist. Originally from the Netherlands, I spent many years in Scotland, before upping sticks and settling in Spain. My journey is what has inspired me to write my solo album. It´s been a long time coming.
I emigrated twice, once for love, once for sunshine (dragging my whole family plus two cats and a truck load of stuff to Valencia). Emigrating means uprooting, saying goodbye, reinventing yourself, figuring out your identity in this new place. It is not easy, but it also makes you feel incredibly alive.
I generally write songs for grownups. Chronicling the universal truths of modern, “grown-up” love – the elation, the heartache, uncertainty and big midlife question of ´Is this all ?´ I also explores themes such as the search for truth and freedom, and darker topics like depression — from a feminine and mature perspective.
My style? Somewhere just south of Folk, north of Americana, a little bit west of Country and occasionally close to The Blues is the musical place I would call home.
I am currently writing and crafting these songs, under my artist name Nina Mae Harper, together with Portuguese producer Helder Borges Santos, and I am recording them in a professional studio here in Valencia.
As you can imagine recording music in a professional studio, and subsequently publishing it, isn't a cheap process.
Any contribution will help hugely towards this project:
Each song costs me €300 to produce, record, mix and master. I have been able to record some fantastic songs with your help already - and I need just three more songs to have a good body of work to choose from for the album.
(Then there are of course costs involved with marketing, copyright, merchandise, printing the CDs and maybe vinyl, paying to get the songs published online, etc. You get the picture!)
Timeline
I have been releasing singles bit by bit on all platforms, and my aim to have a beautiful, finished album ready within the next six months.
